In the first half of 2022, China's pumped storage power stations achieved remarkable results in the "war of closure", and six power stations were put into full operation one after another. Many units of Fengning, Zhouning, Yongtai and other pumped storage power stations have also been put into operation for power generation. They were officially put into operation for power generation on the eve of the "July 1st", presenting a generous gift to the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

1. Meizhou and Yangjiang Pumped Storage Power Stations

On May 28, two megawatt pumped storage power stations in Meizhou and Yangjiang of Guangdong Province built by China Southern Power Grid were put into operation at the same time. So far, the total installed pumped storage capacity of Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay power grid has reached nearly 10million kW, and the peak power generation and supply capacity has been significantly improved during peak hours, which is equivalent to increasing the power supply capacity of nearly two Hainan provinces. The Greater Bay area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao has built a world-class Bay area power grid with the largest installed capacity of pumped storage, the strongest power grid regulation capacity and the highest proportion of clean energy consumption in the world.


(1) Meizhou

The storage capacity of upper and lower reservoirs of Meizhou pumped storage power station is 41.02 million cubic meters and 43.82 million cubic meters respectively, with the total storage capacity ranking the top three in the country. Meizhou pumped storage power station took only 48 months from the commencement of the main project to the full operation of the power station, setting a record for the shortest construction period of the main project of domestic pumped storage power station. Among them, unit 4 successfully achieved the localization of the complete set of unit switch equipment, breaking the long-term monopoly of this series of equipment by foreign manufacturers, and creating a five track era for the three guide bearings of pumped storage units.

Yangjiang Pumped Storage Power Station is the pumped storage power station with the largest single unit capacity that has been put into operation in China at present. It has successfully completed the task of design and manufacturing autonomy of 700 meter class, 400000 kW ultra-high head and ultra-large capacity pumped storage units, and the unit design difficulty is in the forefront of the world; Build the world's first 800 meter head reinforced concrete lined waterway, saving nearly 30% of the cost and about 200million yuan.

2. Huanggou Pumped Storage Power Station


On June 29, unit 4 of Heilongjiang Huanggou Pumped Storage Power Station in Xinyuan of state grid was officially put into commercial operation, marking the full commissioning of the first pumped storage power station in Heilongjiang Province., The Huanggou Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Hailin City, Heilongjiang Province. The local extreme lowest air temperature is minus 45.2 degrees Celsius, the maximum frozen soil depth is 1.91 meters, and the maximum ice thickness is 1.65 meters. It is a typical alpine region.

In order to ensure the normal operation of the unit under low temperature, the construction of the power station adopts the most advanced frost resistance technology in China. The construction team of the sixth Bureau boldly innovated and overcome difficulties. Under the complex environmental conditions of about 20 meters below the normal pool level of the reservoir, the construction team innovatively built a complex steel reinforced concrete structure on a large scale. The application of high frost resistance concrete preparation technology has solved the quality problems of durability and frost resistance of underwater concrete in severe cold environment, which is the first time in the construction of large hydropower stations at home and abroad.

3. Changlongshan pumped storage power station

On June 30, all units of changlongshan pumped storage power station were put into operation for power generation.

Changlongshan pumped storage power station is a pumped storage power station with high head, high speed and large capacity. Its engineering characteristics also include three world firsts and four domestic firsts. The maximum generating head (756m) ranks first in the world, and the single machine capacity (350000 kW) of reversible units at high rated speed (600r/min) ranks first in the world; HD value of high pressure steel bifurcated pipe (4800m × m) First in the world.

4. Yimeng pumped storage power station

On March 23, the last unit of Yimeng power station, unit 4, was officially put into operation for power generation. Yimeng pumped storage power station was put into full commercial operation one year ahead of the original plan.

In terms of unit installation and commissioning, Yimeng pumped storage power station has also made a breakthrough. The No.1, No.3 and No.4 units of the power station are all "zero counterweight", of which No.1 unit is the first high-speed and large-capacity "zero counterweight" pumped storage unit in China's pumped storage industry.

5. Dunhua pumped storage power station

On April 26, unit 4 of Jilin Dunhua pumped storage power station (hereinafter referred to as "Dunhua power station") was officially put into commercial operation, marking the full commissioning of the largest pumped storage power station in Jilin Province during the 14th Five Year Plan period.

Dunhua power station is located in a severe cold area, with an average temperature of minus 3 degrees Celsius for many years and an extreme minimum temperature of minus 44 degrees Celsius in winter. The measured maximum frozen soil depth in the project area is nearly 2 meters, and the annual effective construction period of outdoor projects is less than 6 months. The asphalt concrete core rockfill dam was used in the upper and lower reservoirs of the power station for the first time in the severe cold area, and many challenges were overcome in the construction process. Dunhua hydropower station has effectively ensured the quality of dam construction by taking a series of effective measures, such as strengthening the quality control of raw materials, accurate mix proportion test, and optimizing aggregate gradation, collecting dam filling progress and quality data in real time, strengthening analysis and early warning. The daily leakage monitored after the impoundment of the lower reservoir is 0.07% of the reservoir capacity, which is at the leading level in similar projects in China.
