Elevator lift certification introduction
In 2014, the European Union issued the new elevator directive 2014/33/eu, the new elevator standard EN 81-20 and the safety code for elevator manufacturing and installation en 81-50. The directives and standards will be implemented from April 20, 2016 and enforced from September 2017, which will replace the old elevator directive 95/16/ec. Lift directive is an EU directive for elevator safety, and the EU authorized institutions conduct EC conformity assessment on the safety components and products of vertical ladders according to lift directive.
Legal background:
Within the scope of EU Member States, elevator safety components can be put on the market only if they have CE mark and EC declaration of conformity. The CE mark is obtained according to the EC type test of safety components (elevator directive 2014/33/eu);
Elevator safety components
In EU Member States, elevator safety components can be put on the market only when they have CE mark and EC declaration of conformity.
The lift directive defines safety components as follows:
Landing door lock device: car door lock device and hall door lock device
Up overspeed protection device (brake)
Safety gear for preventing elevator from falling
-Instantaneous (roller and wedge)
-Progressive speed limiter
-Buffer
-Energy storage buffer
-Energy dissipation buffer
Pipeline rupture valve or safety valve (hydraulic elevator safety anti-skid device)
Electrical safety control circuit
Certification process:
Authorization of all elevator safety components listed in Annex IV of the lift directive. Sice inspection engineers carry out EC qualification review on the safety components and products of vertical ladders in accordance with the lift directive, and carry out a global one-stop inspection and certification service.
Review technical documents (review of design calculations, review of design drawings, etc.);
Verify the technical compliance of safety components;
Inspect and test according to standards (according to en81-1/2, appendix F.1 to F.7 safety component test requirements)
Elevator safety component certification mode
Safety evaluation mode based on EC type test:
EC type inspection (Annex V - mode B) + random inspection of final products (Annex Xi - mode C)
EC type inspection (Annex V - mode B) + product quality assurance (Annex Xi - mode E)
Safety evaluation mode based on quality assurance system:
total quantity control (Appendix IX - mode h): elevator safety components that have obtained EC type license can apply for EC certificate of total quality control mode if they meet the basic requirements of lift directive and harmonized standards en81-1/en81-2 in the aspects of design, production, inspection and detection.
EC type test of elevators and model elevators according to elevator directive 95/16/ec
