NRCS certification in South Africa

Regulatory agency

South African national mandatory requirements authority NRCS

The full name of NRCS is the national mandatory requirements management department, and its predecessor is the SABS regulatory department. After confirming that the products meet the standards, it issues the product conformity certificate.

The main responsibility of NRCS is to ensure that automotive products meet mandatory requirements. SABS is only the standard department that formulates standards, tests products and issues product or service certificates. Although NRCS was governed by SABS in the past, it is now a newly established independent department.

Control scope

NRCS manages all vehicles, off-road vehicles and special vehicles on the road according to mandatory specifications. Some auto parts will also be supervised according to the specifications. All standards are similar to the ECE regulations of the United Nations. The NRCS is appointed by the Ministry of transport to supervise the technical requirements of all vehicles on the road. NRCS is also the supervision department of manufacturers and importers.

matters needing attention

1. First of all, the enterprise must appoint an agent, and the agent will state that it is responsible for all data information, after-sales and other matters. The South African road traffic law (act93:1996) requires importers to register with the local Ministry of transport; At the same time, vehicle manufacturers also need to register with the Ministry of transport.

2. South Africa is a British country and belongs to the right-hand steering member country. At the same time, it can continue to test and submit documents to SABS and other work only after successful registration;

3. All test items should be completed in strict accordance with the relevant standards of South Africa, and the reports and other technical documents that meet the NRCS should be submitted;

4. The whole certification process includes two parts: test report review and sample vehicle consistency inspection; (Note: the inspection of the sample vehicle can be arranged in China or South Africa according to the needs of the enterprise)

5. Once all data and sample vehicles have passed the review and evaluation of NRCS, NRCS will issue a certificate. Generally, the whole audit process shall not exceed 15 working days.

6. Valid date of the certificate: as long as the applicable standards and regulations have not been changed and the vehicle has not been modified, the certificate will continue to be valid;

7. NRCS will be responsible for the control of production consistency. If the vehicle model is found to be inconsistent, it has the right to withdraw the certificate.

8. In order to ensure production consistency, NRCS may conduct Factory review after a period of time after certificate application
