Brazil Inmetro certification

1: Brazil Inmetro certification

The Brazilian institution in charge of the safety certification of electrical and electronic products is the Brazilian National Institute of measurement standards and industrial quality (Inmetro). Its compulsory certification name is Inmetro certification. Initially, the certification did not include household appliances. However, with the increase of imports of household appliances, the Brazilian government issued a new notice at the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010, stipulating that a variety of household appliances products, including hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, electric blankets, water heaters, range hoods, clothes dryers, etc., should be added to the compulsory certification catalogue. Since July, 2012, Inmetro certification is mandatory for all products in the catalogue to enter the Brazilian market.

Inmetro certification adopts the fifth certification mode, namely product type test + Factory review + supervision and inspection after certification. Inmetro certification in Brazil is divided into: product certification, service certification, procedure certification, mandatory product performance verification, mandatory declaration of supplier products, mandatory service performance verification, product label, product inspection, service inspection, certification personnel and management system certification. All kinds of certification are divided into compulsory and voluntary certification. Products requiring compulsory certification must be attached with the mandatory Inmetro logo and the logo of a third-party organization recognized by Inmetro before they can enter the Brazilian market.

2: Scope of application of product certification

In the product certification of Inmetro certification:

Mandatory products include: wires and cables, plugs, sockets, adapters, fixed device switches, circuit breakers, fuses, electronic ballasts, fluorescent lamps, toys, baby pacifiers, etc.

Voluntary products include low-voltage electrical appliances, household appliances, consumer electronics (audio and video products), information technology equipment and lighting fixtures (except fluorescent lamps), etc. The application procedure for voluntary certification is slightly different from that for compulsory certification, which requires no on-site review and is more convenient and flexible. Voluntary certification can be applied for after testing in Inmetro accredited laboratory without applying for it.

3: Certification test process

1) Communicate in the early stage of the project and confirm the application

2) Sample delivery test

3) Test and issue test report

4) Arrange factory audit

5) Assist in submitting the test report and factory audit report to the certification authority

6) The certificate will be issued after the data is reviewed and approved

After the compulsory products have passed the Inmetro Brazil certification and obtained the Inmetro certificate, they can use the Inmetro logo, which must be directly printed on the product package or product label together with the license issuing authority
